Who is it for?This unit is suitable for health care practitioners working in environments that provide care for patients having sustained trauma to the muscle-skeletal system. |
Overview of content:

What is it about?This unit is about the different types of injury that can be sustained to the neuro-musculo-skeletal system and the patho-physiology that may be associated with these. It also examines the different forms of assessment and resuscitation that may be required in the emergency care environment. |

How does it enhance practice?This unit enhances practice by educating the practitioner of physical and psycho-social consequences of trauma and providing them with the necessary knowledge to make the required assessments and deliver safe and effective care. |
Overview of content:
Upper/lower limb injuries; Uncomplicated pelvic injuries; Wound care; Osteomyelitis; Orthopaedic emergencies; Neurovascular injury; Spinal injury; Consent/ethics of health care; Anatomy and physiology; X-ray interpretation; Fractures and bone healing.
