MMedSci in Advancing Practice (Full Time – NURT 88)
Who is it for?
The MMedSci in Advancing Practice is suitable for UK and overseas applicants and for those in both clinical and non-clinical roles. The course provides the opportunity for health care professionals who are advancing their individual roles, the roles of others and/or developing services, to undertake a relevant and stimulating academic programme to support their work

Course Outline
The full time MMedSci in Advancing Practice is completed in one year, the taught component being delivered over two semesters. Students undertake units exploring the Context and Concept of Advanced Practice, Evidence Based Practice, Research Methods, Leadership, Advanced Clinical Examination and Assessment, and Service Development. Students will also undertake a dissertation which provides an opportunity for you to apply your learning to an area of personal interest. The course will also offer a range of generic and transferable skills including tuition in basic study skills such as essay writing, referencing, and searching and appraising the literature, and writing for publication. Pastoral and academic support is provided through the allocation of a personal tutor for the course in addition to subject specialist support for individual units. The School of Nursing and Midwifery is committed the publication and dissemination of new knowledge and insights and you will be encouraged to publish work undertaken on the course where appropriate.
Aims and Learning Outcomes
This programmes aims to enable practitioners to meet their individual needs through the development and enhancement of knowledge and skills that reflecting the real challenges they encounter on a day-to-day basis.

- Provide an opportunity to explore the concept of advancing practice from personal, professional and organisational perspectives;
- Enable the student to develop strategies to contribute to the changing health and social care agenda;
- Enable students to justify the contribution they make to the patient/client experience;
- Enable the student to design and conduct a substantial review of the literature in a topic relevant to their practice.
