| Biography |
Charles joined Sheffield's History Department in September 2008. Subsequent to a BA in History from Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Charles studied at Birmingham University for an MPhil, before returning to Cambridge for his doctoral research. Before arriving at Sheffield, he held a Junior Research Fellowship at Hertford College, Oxford (2007-8).

Current Research
Charles is currently working on a monograph provisionally entitled Reframing the Feudal Revolution, as well as co-translating Archbishop Hincmar´s subtle De Divortio Lotharii Regis into English. His next project considers the role of secrecy in early medieval concepts of the public.
Research Interests
Charles's research interests concern the history of early medieval western Europe, including the British Isles, from around 700-1200.
