Biography

I am a PhD student at the University of Sheffield, where I am a convener of the Early Modern Discussion Group. I joined the University as an undergraduate in 2005, and studied in a wide variety of subjects including Early Modern medicine, 18th-Century criminal history and the relationship between art and political power in Renaissance Florence. For my MA I studied 17th century aristocratic culture in England, and mystical theology in Spanish Catholicism.

Research Topic

My research combines my interests in natural history, spirituality, and cultural experience of the body by looking at Early Modern dreams as an expression of desire for intimacy with God. It will examine the relationship between the spiritual and material body of the Christian and the eternal body of the Deity in both figurative and mystical senses.

Other Interests

Outside of my studies I am active in student welfare initiatives and volunteer with the National Trust at Cannon Hall in Barnsley. I have active interests in art, creative writing, and live storytelling performance in Sheffield. You can find updates and information on my research and on these activities on my research blogs.
