Marking Criteria for Presentations

Each student will receive an individual mark deriving from a specific oral presentational task. In those cases where the oral task is a group presentation, each member of the group will be given an individual mark for the task, rather than a single mark being given to the group as a whole.

Seminar performance is assessed using the scale below, , and at the end of the semester, the total will be divided by the total number of seminars minus the number of excused absences, and converted to the 100-point scale. Tutors may use intermediate points on the scale as appropriate.

Oral Mark
0 Unexcused absence; disruptive or disrespectful towards others.
1 Poor, irrelevant or non-existent contributions; little evidence of preparation.
2 Reasonable level of general effort; basic contributions; some preparation but lacking in depth.
3 Good level of general effort; relevant contributions; based on serious preparation; engagement with other students´ arguments; showing respect for the contributions of others.
4 Very high level of general effort; clear, relevant and structured contributions; demonstrating extensive preparation and a sound understanding of the material; constructive attitude; intelligent engagement with other students' arguments and respect for the contributions of others.

Tutors will not reveal marks for individual exercises to students during the module. However, if requested, they will be happy to make general comments on a student's oral performance and suggest ways of improvement. In week 12, tutors will set aside time in which to provide feedback on the oral element of the module. Oral assessment marks will be released to students at this point.
