News and events in the History Department and alumni community.

We hope that you had a most rewarding time here. During this time, you will not only have engaged with historical scholarship. You will also have acquired important skills that reach far beyond the subject matter: these skills - in conjunction with the Department's great reputation in the UK and beyond - will put you in an excellent position for pursuing all kinds of careers, even in these difficult economic times. Not least, you will probably have become active in the University's community, especially through our legendary History Society. You will have forged friendships, some of which may well last a life time.
As a Sheffield History graduate, you have joined a cohesive network of people linked to this University and to each other. This network is continually developing all around the world. It includes a large number of highly successful graduates from the History Department, among them sports journalists for the BBC and The Guardian as well as a deputy ambassador. Like these, many of our former graduates have used the skills that acquired as part of their history degrees to develop their careers far away from history proper, such as working in the cultural industries, in the law-enforcement system or as lawyers. Others have remained more directly linked to historical scholarship, and we are proud to count many famous historians amongst our alumni.
See what some of our alumni have been doing since graduating in History.
