The health visiting service is available to all families with children in the 0-5 year age group. A health visitor can provide you with advice, information and support regarding aspects of child and family health. Your health visitor has a good knowledge of Child Development and will be able to monitor the growth and development of your child. Health visitors work closely with GP’s and other health professionals.
Health visiting teams work within a geographical area. Health visitors provide home visits but more often see children and their families at the Child Health Clinic/baby clinic.
The Health visiting team allocated to provide a home visiting service and general contact for your family will depend upon which area of the city you live. The Crookes/Broomhill Health Visiting team are responsible for running the weekly Child Health Clinic at the university health centre.
This clinic is on Thursday Afternoons between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
There is an appointment system if children need medical checks at 8 weeks of age or for immunisations. However, if you wish to see a health visitor for general advice or to have your child weighed you can ‘drop-in’ between the above times.
Occasionally clinics have to be cancelled so it is probably advisable to check with the University Health Centre on 0114 22 22 100 prior to attending.
