Cervical Cytology (Smears/Pap Tests)

female symbolThe University Health Service provides a cervical screening programme in conjunction with the NHS Cancer Screening Programmes.

Following the changes to the cervical screening programme in April 2005, the test is offered to all women aged between 25 years and 64 years. If you turned 20 years old before 1st April 2005, you may continue to receive invitations for a cervical smear under the ‘old’ programme. Please phone our advice line if you would like further advice on this:
0114 2222 111 between 2-3pm Monday-Friday

A 20 minute female nurse appointment is required for this test and it is best if you have the test when you are not bleeding.
