Biography

My first MA was completed in psychology in 1996. After few years later, I completed my second MA in the sciences of speech and language disorders. My MA dissertation is about the parent-child interaction of preschool children with SLI.

I was a qualified Speech and Language Therapist in Taiwan from 1997. I worked mainly with children who had speech, language and communication difficulties in both clinics and mainstream educational settings for over than 8 years.

I was awarded a three-year scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Taiwan and joined the Human Communication Sciences Department in Sept 2008.

Current Projects

My PhD research focuses on the relationship between phonological awareness and literacy skills of Mandarin-speaking children in Taiwan. The project is a longitudinal study over their first academic year in a mainstream primary school.
I also investigate the differences of phonological awareness and literacy outcome between typical developing children and children with speech difficulty. The contextual impact of spoken and written languages used in Taiwan is also taken into account.
The implication of my study is to identify children of high-risk in having difficulty to acquire literacy skills.
