Biography
I am a lecturer in the department of Human Communication Sciences, University of Sheffield. My research is in the field of developmental speech and language impairments, specifically the long term outcomes of children with speech and language impairments, the role of social disadvantage in speech and language development in children and adolescents and the complex co-morbidity between speech and language development, social disadvantage and mental health.
Prior to joining the department in February 2002, I worked as a clinical Speech and Language Therapist in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire NHS Trust, St Andrews Hospital, Northampton and Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham.
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1997 and completed my PhD in 2002. The PhD was based on the Language Development Project, Queens Medical Centre, University of Nottingham with Professor Chris Hollis and Professor Sir Michael Rutter, Institute of Psychiatry, London.
I hold an honorary clinical contract with the Sheffield Speech and Language Therapy Agency and I am a Registered Intermediary with the Home Office as part of the Vulnerable Witness Scheme. I am a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health Professions Council.
