affiliated bodies

This summer school will investigate ways in which bioremediation can be used more effectively to manage contaminated land and groundwater. The programme consists of presentations, technical workshops and field visits, facilitated by senior researchers from the UK and China. It will consider the latest research developments in this field, site assessment, design concepts, practical applications and performance monitoring for bioremediation. Delegates attending this summer school will gain a deeper understanding of the science and engineering issues that underpin advances in this exciting multidisciplinary field. The objectives are to:

  • Examine the scientific theory and engineering application of bioremediation
  • Explore current technical limitations affecting the bioremediation of soils and groundwater
  • Introduce new thinking, state-of-the-art analytical tools, practical assessment methods and novel applications, which are at the “frontier” of the field
  • Exchange research and practical experience experiences between China, the UK and elsewhere
  • Develop long-term relationships for further research and create an international network of researchers
