Andrea

Studying German at Sheffield has allowed me to further my knowledge of many different aspects of German and Germany. Whether you are interested in history, philosophy, film or literature, Sheffield offers modules to cater for everyone. In first year I was introduced to a variety of subject areas, allowing me to sample various teaching methods and styles. My experiences in first year enabled me to decide my module choices for my second year more easily.
Second year language classes are aimed at developing basic skills and focus on more practical situations that could be faced on the Year Abroad. There is also the opportunity to participate in German oral classes with natives, which I find very beneficial.
The Germanic Studies department is impressive. The opportunity to be involved with the German play, the Film Club, organizing socials or more recently the Germanic Studies football team is combined with friendly, approachable staff who are willing to help in any way possible.
Outside of the Germanic Studies department, Sheffield University and the city of Sheffield offer something for everyone. With the Peak district and City Centre within walking distance and regular tram and bus facilities, it is easy to feel comfortable and at ease when living here.
