THE DUAL HONOURS DEGREE IN
GERMAN AND SPANISH (GERMANIC AND HISPANIC STUDIES)

Alemania

As the range of languages people study at school has become more diverse in recent years, German and Spanish has become an increasingly popular degree combination. Given that they represent the most widely-spoken languages in Europe and the Americas respectively, studying the two gives you true intercontinental potential! And the two cultures, thoroughly different from one another but both of them fascinating and many-sided, make for a varied and exciting degree. In Sheffield, both Departments are large, broad-based, wide-ranging in their approach to their subject, and expert, offering highly complementary degree programmes with a high level of optionality. And both Departments also include in their provision a number of other languages related to their main ones: Portugese and Catalan for Hispanic Studies and Dutch, Swedish and Luxembourgish for Germanic Studies.

Your Dual Honours programme in German and Spanish will also include a full year abroad, which can be spent at university or on work-placement (either in a commercial setting or - if feasible - as an assistant teacher). If you go to a German-speaking university, you can study some Spanish there, and similarly you can continue your German at university in Spain or Latin America. You will divide the year between Spain/Latin America and a German-speaking country, with spring/summer normally spent in the latter.

Dual Honours Germanic and Hispanic Studies is a first-rate study combination, involving two crucial languages of the modern commercial and cultural world. With such a degree behind you, you will have an exceptional range of skills, knowledge and experience to offer to an employer.
