Applying & Information
Choosing a University and a degree programme is a big decision, both personally and financially. You will want to be assured that the University you choose can offer you a high quality course and provide you with all the support services required to ensure you have a rewarding academic and social experience. We, at the Department of Germanic Studies, are confident that we offer a degree course of high quality and great variety.

All applicants receiving offers are invited to attend an Open Day in the Department. Conditional and unconditional offers are made on the basis of information given on the UCAS application form. For a general guide on the degree combinations offered in the Department and on the typically required A-Level scores, please check:
We emphasise that factors other than A-level grades are taken into account and each application is considered on its merits. We also welcome applications through the Mature Access Scheme from older-than-average candidates who do not have the usual academic qualifications.
During an Open Day you'll have the opportunity to:
- find out about the course programme and the course structure
- meet members of staff and ask questions
- meet current students who can share their experiences with you
- find out about the facilities of the School of Modern Languages and Linguistics
- have a look around the Students' Union and other parts of the campus.
