Masters
The Department has a well-established and successful MA in Germanic Studies. This includes both a 'Programme Track' based wholly on coursework and short dissertation, for those who prefer a complete and self-contained degree with a considerable taught element, and a 'Research Track', for students who are considering carrying on to MPhil or PhD level. The 'Research Track' MA programme, which may attract a Sheffield fee waiver and in the case of exceptionally well qualified candidates even a fully-funded 'Incentive Award' bursary, is designed to enable students with fairly well-developed research ambitions to advance and deepen their knowledge in and around their intended primary research area, greatly broaden their reading, acquire the expertise and methodological skills which will aid future research, and equip themselves optimally for scholarship applications to the AHRC and other funding bodies.
