Departmental funding to support research and conferences

Several sources of funding are available to support research stimulation, research-related travel and attendance at conferences.

Conference attendance - Learned Societies Fund (LSF)

This fund covers conference attendance (including travel, subsistence and conference fee). Staff and postgraduate research students can apply for up to £450 per year, though please note that as the fund operates on a 'first come first served' basis it is advisable to apply as early in the academic year as possible. Forms (which can be downloaded on the right) should be completed and submitted to Emma Shelton (e.m.shelton@sheffield.ac.uk) prior to attending the conference. An expenses claim needs to be completed and submitted on return from the conference.

Departmental Foreign Research & Travel Fund

Members of Geography staff can claim a fixed amount of funding to cover the costs of research-related overseas travel over each 3 year period. Enquiries about these arrangements should be directed to Emma Shelton (e.m.shelton@sheffield.ac.uk). The downloadable application form (see right) should be submitted to Emma before making any travel bookings. The fund operates on a 'first come first served' basis, so colleagues are advised to get in touch as soon as they have any definite travel plans.

Departmental Research Stimulation Fund

A modest amount of departmental funding is available to staff for the purpose of encouraging and supporting research activity. Applications are now invited for funding for international conferences, research support and/or field work. When applying please specify on the downloadable form (see the link on the right) whether you are requesting funds for Research Stimulation, Research Groups or REF Support. Applications for research stimulation funding should be sent to Ann Charlett-Day (a.charlett-day@sheffield.ac.uk).
