Policy, Governance and Place

What are the links between government and the geography of public policy? How is political participation affected by context? Do citizens’ views of democracy vary from country to country? How are we to understand the politics of civil society? How effective are political campaigns and to what extent does their effectiveness depend on where they are targeted? How are we to understand the geopolitics of a rapidly changing world? What are the political consequences of growing social and economic inequality? These questions and more are at the heart of the research carried out within the Policy, Governance and Place research group.

Group members work at a variety of spatial scales, from the very local to the international. Research within the group is conducted in the UK, in Europe, North and South America, and Africa. A wide range of techniques are employed, from large scale quantitative data analysis to in-depth ethnographic methods.
