Applying for a Masters
Applications
In order to be considered for admittance onto our Masters courses, you need to complete an online application form.
You will need to attach two academic references to your application, as well as academic transcripts and certificates. Your referees should write a confidential letter/email and send this directly to the Postgraduate Programmes Officer. Please note that your application will not be considered until all references have been received.
Applicants to the Masters courses should apply no later than 1 August for 2013/14 entry. We do accept late Masters applications, but please note that these will take longer to process, and if you require a visa it is unlikely you will be able to obtain one in time to begin your course.
The application process should take no longer than three weeks, although during busy periods this may be extended. We aim to make decisions on applications as soon as possible.
We will communicate with applicants primarily via email. Please ensure that you supply us with a working email address and check your emails frequently.
Entry Requirements
Candidates will need at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree in Geography or a related subject, and offers to final year undergraduates are conditional on this requirement. International students seeking clarity on entry requirements for their own countries should please consult the Prospective International Students pages.
All students wishing to study at the University of Sheffield must show that their English language is at a level which allows them to successfully complete their chosen course of study. For candidates for whom English is not their first language or who do not possess a degree taught in the English language there are minimum English language requirements. If these have not yet been met, any offer made will be conditional on obtaining IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) average of 6.5 or above, with at least 5.5 in each component, or equivalent qualification.
Our English Language Requirements page lists the international English Language qualifications that are accepted by the University.
