This week the Geography Department held a test screening for a groundbreaking feature film. Togetherness Supreme tells the story of the disputed Kenyan election of December 2007, and the violence that erupted after the announcement of the election results. Filmed entirely on location in Nairobi´s Kibera slum, the film is written by and stars the people of Kibera. Test screenings are taking place in the USA, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, India, South Africa and Sheffield over the next few weeks.

Dr Dan Vickers and level three students Amy Cosstick and Katherine Brown visited Kibera to find out more about the project following the Development Studies field class to Kenya in April this year. Amy, Dan and Katherine received a warm welcome from everyone they met especially the staff and volunteers at the Hot Sun Foundation who are producing the film.

Katherine and Amy in Kibera

The Hot Sun Foundation is a non-profit organisation that provides an opportunity for the people of Kibera to showcase their talents and learn new skills. The Togetherness Supreme film project not only provides opportunities for all who worked on it, but also enables the people of Kibera to tell their story to the rest of the world.

The film is scheduled to go on general release in early 2010, if you cannot wait until then, more information about the film can be found at the following links.
