Information for applicants to our undergraduate courses
Applicants to our undergraduate courses should note the following changes to our entry requirements. In addition, if you receive an offer from us, please do consider attending an Offer-Holder Open Day (further information below).
Important Changes to our Entry Requirements
Although our standard offer remains unchanged for almost all of our courses, we have made important changes to some of our entry requirements. Our typical requirements can now be summarised as follows:
- We normally expect applicants to offer at least three full A Levels
- Most courses have specific subject requirements for at least one or two of your grades
- Whatever the subject-specific requirements of your course, at least two of your three grades must be in subjects from the list of acceptable A Level subjects as defined by the University*
- For all courses, your third grade must be from the list of acceptable in combination A Level subjects as defined by the University*
- We do not accept General Studies as a third grade for our entry to BA single honours Human Geography; however, this subject will not count against you if you take it as a fourth A Level.
- We may at our discretion decide to allow one A Level grade to be substituted with either 2 AS Level grades or 6 units of the BTEC National Award.
In addition, subject to places on our courses remaining unfilled when the A Level results are confirmed in August, we may at our discretion consider:
- Accepting General Studies as a third grade for entry to BA single honours Human Geography, provided the applicant has done exceptionally well in that subject.
- Applicants who meet the required UCAS tariff for Environmental Science courses, but who do not meet the exact requirements of the offer (e.g. an applicant who has ABC, when the typical offer is BBB).
Please see the specific requirements relating to your chosen course on our Degree Courses and Requirements for Entry page:
Degree Courses and Requirements for Entry
* These subjects are listed on the appropriate page of the University´s guidance document on A Level Subject requirements, which can be downloaded from the following page:
Guidance on A Level Subject Requirements
Open Days for Offer-holders
If you have applied to us through UCAS and have received an offer of a place on one of our courses, congratulations!
All applicants who receive an offer will also receive an email or letter inviting them to attend one of our Offer-holder Open Days. These open days run from February to early April and are designed to give you a fuller picture of life and work as a student on your particular course. Each day also includes short tours of the campus and the department, a visit to catered and self-catered accommodation, and opportunities to meet staff and current students.
We hope we´ll see you soon at one of our Open Days. To find out which dates are available and to book your place, please visit the URL detailed in the invite email or letter, or contact our Undergraduate Admissions Secretary if you have received neither of these (details below). If you cannot attend any of the available dates, you can attend one of the University´s campus tours, which run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during semester.
