Internship Opportunity at the Geographical Association announced
The Department of Geography has announced a prestigious annual internship at the Geographical Association, whose headquarters are in Sheffield, for second-year students studying Geography and related degrees. Completely independent of government, the GA is both a charity and the national association for Geography Teachers, whose core objective is to further the study, learning and teaching of geography in the UK.
The intern will work to promote Geography as a subject in schools through activities such as contributing to the GA website, liaising with local teachers and the wider GA membership, and assisting the GA with their activities, publications, and events. The intern will gain valuable experience of working for an academic-related professional organisation.
Professor David Lambert, Chief Executive of the Geographical Association, commented "I have been very keen to build the GA's experience of working with interns, who almost invariably bring energy, commitment and new insights to our work. With over 20 staff, the GA provides a varied and lively office environment with a range of opportunities, all centred on supporting teachers and promoting geography in schools."
The GA has an historic link with the Department, and it is hoped that the internship will encourage even stronger links between the two. Professor Peter Jackson of the Department of Geography, who will be overseeing the selection of the successful applicant, added "We're very pleased to be working closely with the GA on this exciting initiative. It will give one of our second-year students some very valuable work experience, contributing to the GA's important educational mission."
Information for applicants:
