What degree programmes can I follow?
At Sheffield, you can study French on our Single Honours course, or combine it with another subject as part of a Dual Honours degree.
Through the Single Honours course you will become a skilled language practitioner while developing expertise in fields such as literature, history, film, sociology and gender studies.
Alternatively, you can study French alongside another subject. This will allow you to learn linguistic skills and cultural competency while developing a broad knowledge base and skill set. You can choose to combine French with other languages offered in the school, with the option of learning a new language - such as Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish or Czech - from scratch. You can also combine French with a non-language subject.

'And' degrees'And' degrees - for example French and English - usually involve a 50/50 split between the two subjects. In this case you will normally spend an equal amount of time on both subjects and study an equal amount of modules. You will therefore receive an equal amount of credits. These are known as Dual Honours degrees. |
'With' degrees'With' degrees - for example French with Japanese - let you choose a ‘Major’ and ‘Minor’ focus. The first subject (French) is the major part of your degree and the second subject (Japanese) the minor. Each degree is different, but as a rough guide the major subject forms around 70% of your course and the minor 30%. |
