Conferences

In July 2002 Professor Ainsworth gave keynote plenaries at the Annual Meeting of the Society for French Studies (Bristol) and the Third Triennial International Medieval Chronicle Conference (Utrecht). He led a seminar at the Sorbonne in December 2003 and in Nov-Dec 2004 gave keynote lectures at Paris, Lille and Valenciennes at international colloquiua celebrating the life and works of the poet-chronicler, as part of année du patrimoine events marking the presumed sexcentenary of Froissart's death in 1404. Extracts from vol 2 of the « Lettres Gothiques » Froissart, edited by Peter Ainsworth and Alberto Varvaro, were read in performance at the Musée National du Moyen Âge, Hôtel de Cluny, by Comédie Française sociétaires Françoise Gillet and Denis Podalydès. In July 2005 Professor Ainsworth gave a paper at the Fourth Triennial International Medieval Chronicle Conference (Reading). He has been invited to open the international ‘Cities at War/Villes en guerre' conference at Aix-en-Provence, March 2006. Godfried Croenen has given invited papers at Ghent, Utrecht, Nottingham, Leeds IMC, Chester and Edinburgh. He also contributed to the 2004 Paris colloquium, and will be speaking at the October 2006 conference in Pau-Orthez commemorating and celebrating the court of Gaston Fébus and Froissart's visit there in November 1388 for 12 weeks.
