Appointing a member of staff to a research award
Under normal circumstances, research finance will send you a letter to notify you that an account has been set up for your award and that you can begin appointing.
There may be occasions where you need to appoint staff before the University has received notification from the sponsor. In these circumstances, these staff may need to be underwritten by Faculty Finance until the grant is set up.
The University has well defined procedures to control the appointment of staff. Further details are available from Human Resources.
To appoint a new member of staff, the E-recruitment system (e-recruitment)should be used. This will electronically forward the details to Research Finance who will check the availability of funding for the proposed post before sending it to Human Resources to release it for advert.
To extend the contract of a current member of staff, complete an FTC Form B "Request to extend staff on fixed term contracts"(Form B) and forward this to the relevant person in Research Finance.
Please check on UBase to obtain the correct approver from Research Finance. If the wrong approver is entered on the e-recruitment form, this can delay the approval of the appointment.
