PGR Studentship Opportunities

The Faculty had an excellent RAE2008 out-turn, with over 60% of our activity rated 3* or 4*. Two departments were ranked first in the THES, and a further 3 in the top 5.

If you aspire to study in one of the strongest Faculties of Social Sciences in the UK, want to be part of a vibrant and diverse community of researchers, and can demonstrate strong achievements and high potential, then we would welcome an application for research study in one of the Faculty’s 13 departments.

There are three principal sources of studentship available within departments in the Faculty:

* University and Faculty Prize Studentships some at full research council rate and others at 50% research council rate

* Fees only scholarships in all departments within the faculty

* A number of departments have ESRC quota awards

There are differing deadlines for application for the above, please look at individual departmental web pages for further information. You can download a copy of the Faculty of Social Science postgraduate research booklet that gives further information on all departments from the link on the right hand side of this page.

The other links on the right will take you direct to individual departmental pages with further information on PhD study, where you can also access information on staff research interests.

We would also welcome applications to work with staff in the Faculty's major interdisciplinary research centres – see the centre links on the right for information on staff and research interests.

While we would recommend contacting individual departments to discuss your application, formal application should be made on-line. See http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/scholarships/ for more information.
