Vaccine expert to give Christmas Lecture
Professor Adam Finn, an expert on vaccines and children’s medicine from the University of Bristol, and formerly of the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Children’s Hospital, will visit Sheffield on Friday 18th December to deliver a public lecture about vaccines.
The lecture entitled ‘Vaccines: what’s all the fuss about?” will be an entertaining and educational look at vaccines - where they’ve come from, how they work and what the real risks are.
This free event is open to all. The lecture is aimed at anyone over the age of eight and members of the public and families are particularly welcome to attend. The lecture will be held in St George’s Church, Mappin Street, and will be followed by a drinks reception with mince pies.
The event is being organised by a group of postgraduate students from the Departments of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Engineering Materials and the Medical School. Jenna Stevens-Smith, head of the organising committee who is currently studying for a PhD, said “Science communication is something I am very passionate about, and I recognise the importance of engaging the public in science, specifically topical issues, such as vaccines. I thought that a Christmas Lecture would be a fantastic way to achieve this”.
| Doors open at 5.30pm.
To order your free tickets email: christmaslecture@sheffield.ac.uk stating how many tickets you require and whether you will be attending the drinks reception.
