HEA ACCREDITED TRAINING

Our training programme is accredited by the Higher Education Academy.

Contract research staff play an important role in teaching across the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health, and their up-to-date understanding of contemporary research means that students benefit greatly. Experience of teaching is also important for many post-docs and other early career researchers to progress in their careers. The Think Ahead teaching programme enables early career researchers to accredit their teaching experience. Dr Lucy Lee can support you through this process.

You will need to attend and obtain certification for 4 sessions on the Sheffield Teaching Assistant programme:

  • Large Group Teaching
  • Small Group Teaching: Seminar Facilitation
  • Supervising Research Projects
  • Assessment & Feedback

Colleagues who follow the entire programme AND undertake teaching (with observed sessions) will be able to make an individual application to the UK Higher Education Academy for accreditation at Associate Fellowship status. HEA accreditation is recognised across all UK Higher Education institutions, and many Universities worldwide.

Supervision

SUPERVISING STUDENTS

We can support you as principle investigator on short research projects.

  • Would you like to experience the whole research process from grant application, through recruitment, to managing a student and a budget?
  • Would having supervisory experience increase the likelihood of success with your next job or Fellowship application?

The SURE scheme, from the Think Ahead programme allows contract research staff to supervise undergraduate science, technology, engineering and medicine students to experience the research environment over the course of a summer project. You will receive training in recruitment, teaching & supervision, and research project & budget management, and be given assistance in applying for funding.
