At the beginning of your contract:
As a new member of staff in the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health you will need to do a few things.
- Induction - Visit Dr Lucy Lee (Faculty Researcher Development Manager) in DU19, Medical School and receive your induction and orientation pack which contains tons of information on professional development activities and career development support they can expect from the Faculty, the wider University, and from national initiatives. Your induction pack also contains information on all the Think Ahead Programme opportunities, useful contacts and resources, and guidelines for a being a successful post-doc.
- Go to Human Resources (HR), 3-5 Brunswick Street with your job offer letter
- Go to Finance Brunswick Street, with your Bank Account Details/P45, Proof of Eligibility to Work in the UK document (passport, driving licence etc), Birth and Marriage Certificate (where applicable).
- Go to CiCS Computing Centre, Hounsfield Road and get a Staff ID card and register for a computer account
Go to C13, C Floor, Medical School. There you can get:
- Keys to labs and your office (take with you the room numbers)
- Your swipe card
- A lab book
- Health and safetly booklet

The Early Career Group aims to establish tailored support for researchers to be successful in moving on to the next stage of their career. Consequently, one year before the end of you contract we can offer you many different avenues of support in your research, choice, preparation and application for your next career move. Dr Lucy Lee will be you first point of contact and can advise you and set you up with tailored specialist advice such as Fellowship Coaching, Career Mentoring, The non-Academic Career Network, and dedicated post-doc development specialists at the University of Sheffield Careers Service.
Please take a minute fill in the Follow-up Questionnaire the aim of which is to establish why Research Staff leave the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health. It will only take a few minutes and provides invaluable information.
