Degrees available
The Graduate School offers programs leading to the degrees of:
- Master of Philosophy
- Doctor of Philosophy
- Doctor of Medicine
- Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Studies
- Postgraduate study for Healthcare practitioners
MPhil / PhD - Entry Requirements:
- Upper Second Class (2.1) Honours degree or above
- Those with a 2:2 degree and considerable work experience, or professional qualification may be considered
- Students whose first language is not English must have an IELTS 6.5 or 7.0; with a 6.0 in each component (depending on Department please check with the Department you are applying to) OR equivalent gained within the past two years
- Two academic references which should be supplied by academic staff at institutions where you studied previously. If you have been out of education for a while then we will accept a reference from your current employer if they are able to comment on your suitability to study for a higher research degree.
PhD by Publication
- The PhD by publication route is offered only to staff, as an alternative to the standard PhD route. It is designed to enable recognition of the research activities of those members of staff who have published work but have not completed a PhD. Prospective applicants should first ensure that they refer to the University's Regulations for PhD by Publication.
Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Studies - Entry Requirements:
- Any registered healthcare professional who has experience of practice and can demonstrate the ability to study at postgraduate level. A first degree is normally required but applicants who can provide evidence of degree level study, for example having successfully completed degree level courses, will be considered. Previous students have included Acute Care staff nurses, Community Matrons, Modern Matrons, Operating Department Practitioners, Dieticians, Practice Nurses, and Specialist Practitioners
