NIHR Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF)

The NIHR Sheffield CRF operates from both the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Northern General Hospital sites. These units together offer purpose built, state-of-the-art, dedicated research facilities which provide a specialist environment for the conduct of high quality clinical research. The CRF is funded in partnership with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and the University of Sheffield.

The CRF provides a safe, friendly and supportive environment. It offers dedicated space to investigators undertaking all types of clinical research including industry and experimental medicine studies. The Facility has the capacity to care for participants on a daily and overnight basis. The CRF has the range of expertise required to run complex studies with small numbers of patients as well as large healthy volunteer studies where the recruitment of hundreds of people is necessary. The CRF can also provide an outreach service for studies that depend upon delivering in their own clinical environment.

About Us CRFAn experienced and enthusiastic team of specialist research nurses, support and administrative staff provides researchers with a comprehensive and accessible service tailored to meet the requirements for study set up; study conduct and study close out. The CRF team facilitates researchers throughout the development of the project, including post-authorisation, ensuring not only that recruitment is competitive but that data is entered in a timely and accurate manner.

This fully equipped unit guarantees that research undertaken in the CRF has met all the legislative, governance and ethical requirements that ensure participant safety. The unit operates to a comprehensive robust Quality Assurance Framework. All staff working in the CRF are fully trained in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and comply to a comprehensive set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The CRF is a resource open to researchers from all clinical disciplines encouraging collaboration with researchers across South Yorkshire.
