Finance Clusters
With effect from 1st August 2009, the operational aspects of Faculty finances will be undertaken within the following three Finance Clusters.
· CSE/MEC
· ACSE/COM/EEE
· CPE/MAT
Each cluster will be led by designated staff supported, as necessary, from Heads of Departments, Faculty Finance and other senior staff involved in finance. The purpose of the Clusters is to
· optimise support staff structures to maximise efficiency and enhance quality of service delivery
· provide a robust, future proof, structure for delivering finance services and control
Finance clusters should be the first point of contact for all departmental finance related queries and processes. Those matters which are, or turn out to be, more strategic in nature, will then be escalated to senior departmental staff and HODs.
It is anticipated that the vast majority of all departmental finance queries and procedures will be able to be handled within Finance Clusters.
Existing departmental staff with operational finance responsibilities have each been aligned to their respective Finance Cluster.
For the time being, contact details of departmental finance staff remain unaltered. Subsequent changes as a consequence of Cluster reorganisations will be notified to departments separately.

Interdisciplinary Programmes Office
The Faculty is establishing a new Interdisciplinary Programmes Office(IPO) that will house and run degree programmes delivered by a number of collaborating departments. Currently, these are the Bioengineering and Aerospace degrees, and the Foundation Year. New courses are also being planned and will be run through this office. This initiative will provide the students with a home and improve the cohesion of our offering.
We are pleased to announce that Prof Sheila MacNeil will be the Director of the new IPO. She will start this post on the first of February 2010.
As part of this reorganisation, Dr Tony Dodd will become the director of Undergraduate Studies for Aerospace, commencing in October 2009. Dr Rachel Tomlinson and Prof John Parker will remain as Directors of Undergraduate Studies for the Foundation year and the Bioengineering courses, respectively. I would like to record my thanks to Prof Costas Soutis for all his work in support of the Aerospace Programme and look forward to his continued advocacy in support of the Programme.
The faculty is providing dedicated space for the IPO in the old III/V centre and which will contain the administration teams, led by Mrs Jane Bradbury, and six bookable breakout rooms.
with best wishes
Mike Hounslow
