Postgraduate community
As a research student you spend significant periods focusing on your individual research interests; however, you are also a member of a vibrant and supportive postgraduate research community.
In support of your academic research there are opportunities to:
- Present your work in student seminars and gain feedback from your peers
- Attend interdisciplinary conferences both within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and outside the University.
- Participate in departmental research seminars.
More informally, you can get involved with a variety of student-led groups and activities.

Faculty Student Forum The Faculty Student Forum is an informal group where students discuss shared issues. The Forum comprises undergraduate, taught and research postgraduate students. |
PROGRESS PROGRESS is The University of Sheffield's Postgraduate Society, run by postgraduates, for postgraduates. It hosts a variety of events including after-work drinks, pub quiz, meals out and special events too which are voted for by members. |
PG Café forum PG Café Forum is a student-led initiative which creates an informal and relaxed atmosphere in which taught and research postgraduate students can share their work, socialise and network. The forum covers all disciplines and departments. |

Sheffield Union The Students’ Union is at the heart of the campus and student life. The Union is run by eight Student Officers, elected by the whole student population. Whether you’re interested in joining a society or even starting your own society, trying something new with give it a go, volunteering, sporting activities, or just grabbing something to eat or drink, the Union is the place to go. |
