Events and projects
Students on the Faculty Student Forum have designed and helped organize several events. Here are some reports …

The Value of Arts and Humanities in the 21st Century (May 2011)
The Value of Arts and Humanities in the 21st Century... a question many of us may be asking as we write an essay, sit an exam or talking to other students. The discussion in May 2011 was one of heated enthusiasm. With a high-class panel and current day issues, true colours and thoughts really shone through. With David Blunkett’s witty and passionate 'banter' and Peter Hitchens’ strong and critical analysis, our eyes opened to many issues. With a vast turn out from staff, students and the public we were able to put our voice and concerns across. Though many issues were addressed and a new glimmer of hope shone through, many issues still remain unanswered. The event was a triumphant success with everyone talking amongst themselves and debating the panels’ answers as they left the building. So what is the 'Value'? In my opinion, it is priceless. Many thanks to the staff and panellists for being involved. The success of the event has spurred interest for a similar event next academic year, one not to miss.

The Staff- Student Quiz (April 2011)
The Staff-Student quiz was a night which had a great atmosphere. There were around seventy staff members and students on teams, and the questions were based on topics such as campus knowledge, music and politics. The quiz-master – Richard Ward from the Faculty office – was brilliant! It was great to see the tutors relaxed and away from academic duties; talk of shop was strictly off the menu. On the menu was a buffet and drinks provided by the Faculty. The night culminated in a tense conclusion: a deciding tie-breaker question, causing serious competitiveness in the room. As one of the organisers of the event, it was a bigger success than I could ever have dreamed of, and a night which I hope will be repeated annually long after I have graduated.
