Professor Mike Braddick
Professor Mike Braddick is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Faculty and ensuring that it goes from strength to strength. Sound financial management and ensuring that the faculty maximises its income and operates within its budget limits are very important elements of the role. Mike chairs the Faculty Executive Board (FEB) and represents the faculty on the University Executive Board (UEB). Through UEB he plays a key role in helping to shape the University's strategic and policy framework and to ensure that the Faculty develops in the context of the University's corporate priorities. Mike also represents the Faculty to external bodies both locally and nationally. Along with the rest of the Faculty Management Team, Mike is involved in developing Faculty strategies and policies, improving communication and implementing University processes such as recruitment, appointment and promotions. |
Ms Valerie Cotter
Valerie Cotter’s role is to work across the Faculty and the University to develop and support clear strategic and operational planning and delivery. The role involves working closely with the Faculty PVC and the other Directors, Heads of Departments, school and departmental managers and colleagues in professional services to develop and deliver strategy and service improvements. An important part of the job involves supporting organisational and infrastructure development and service reviews to ensure that opportunities for positive improvement are identified, agreed and implemented. Valerie is a member of the Faculty Executive Board and convenes the Faculty Resources and Operations Group (FROG). She also represents the Faculty on a number of University level committees and project groups. Monitoring, reporting and support for the management of Faculty performance fall within the FDO role as does the work to improve Faculty communications. |
Dr Penny Simons
Dr Penny Simons has an important role in the Faculty with oversight of quality assurance and enhancement of teaching and learning and leading the development and implementation of the Faculty’s Learning and Teaching Strategy. Penny is a member of the Faculty Executive Board and represents the Faculty at University level committees. Penny works closely with the teaching leads in each School and Department within the Faculty and is Chair of the Faculty Learning and Teaching and Teaching Committee which has responsibility for the management and strategic development of undergraduate teaching. Penny sits on the Faculty Postgraduate Committee for taught and research post graduate teaching, chaired by Assistant Director of Research and Innovation (postgraduate studies) , Dr Dawn Hadley (Archaeology). Both committees are supported by the Faculty officer from Learning and Teaching Services, James Goldingay. Two Assistant Directors support the work of the Director of Learning and Teaching. They are Dr Stephanie Pitts (Music) who has responsibility for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching, and from 2009-10 Dr Karen Harvey (History) who will take on responsibility for Undergraduate Affairs. |
Professor Andrew Linn
Professor Andrew Linn is responsible for developing and leading the implementation of the research, innovation and knowledge exchange strategy for the Faculty. Working closely with the Faculty Directors of Research and Innovation in the other 4 Faculties and with the University PVC for Research and Innovation, Andrew has an important role in promoting inter-departmental and inter-disciplinary research activity. Andrew is a member of the Faculty Executive Board and chairs the Faculty Research and Innovation Committee. He also represents the Faculty at University level committees. A key part of the role is to promote the faculty externally, making the most of external networks and working to raise the profile and esteem of the Faculty and its departments with external funders and Research Councils. Andrew is working closely with the Humanities Research Institute, other research centres and clusters within the Faculty and, from 1st June 2009 is closely supported by the Research and Innovation Services’ Faculty facing team. |
