If so, you could nominate them for the Chancellor's Medal, an award which recognises an individual student's achievements. Final year undergraduates, postgraduates completing their programme of study/research and recent graduates of the University are all eligible to be considered for this award.
The award was funded by the University's sixth Chancellor, Lord Dainton of Hallam Moors, who held office from 1978-1997. Cast in silver to an original design by Lord Dainton, it is presented to the recipient at their Degree Congregation.
In 2007 the Medal was awarded to former Union President Harsh Srivastav (pictured right) who received it in acknowledgement of his outstanding contribution to University life.
Harsh said of the Medal: "It was a big surprise, and a great honour, to find out I had won this important award. I am elated that my contributions to University life have been recognised and I am proud that I have made a difference. Coming from India, completing my degree here is a massive achievement for me and to win this award rounds off what has been an incredible time for me here in Sheffield."
The closing date for nominations is Thursday, 1 May 2008 and all members of the University may make a nomination. Any recommendation should be accompanied by a statement outlining the reasons why the award is considered appropriate.
A final decision on the award will be made by the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Chancellor, on recommendation from the Deans and the Chairman of the Board of Collegiate Studies.
