Accommodation Information
Most Erasmus students can be housed in University-owned accommodation.
However, due to the large number of Erasmus students we receive each year, places cannot be guaranteed.
Our Accommodation Office can help you find somewhere to live, whether it is in University accommodation or private sector housing.
One semester contracts are available in University-owned housing and it is possible to find 6 month contracts in the private sector.
How do I Apply for University-owned Accommodation?
You must first of all consult the Accommodation Office web pages:
Accommodation Office web pages
You can then apply online using your applicant number, surname and date of birth:
University Housing Application Form
The application deadlines are as follows:
- 01 August - Autumn arrivals
- 11 December - Spring arrivals
How Can I Find Out My Applicant Number?
We will send your applicant number to you by email once your Erasmus application has been approved.
Please contact us if you have not received your applicant number by the end of July (Autumn arrivals) or late November (Spring arrivals).
Having problems applying online?
If you encounter problems applying online, please contact us by email, quoting your full name, date of birth and individual applicant number.

Do I have to live in University-owned housing?
No. If you would prefer to find private sector accommodation, please visit the private sector housing bureau, 'PropertyWithUs', on level 4, University House when you arrive.
There are also many privately run agencies and 'student housing shops' in and around Sheffield especially in the main student-inhabited areas such as Broomhill, Crookes, Crookesmoor, Walkley and Broomhall.
It is normal for students to advertise available rooms too via web forums such as our Facebook group and the Students' Union web site:

No Need to Worry!
Please don't worry about finding somewhere to live in Sheffield. Student accommodation is plentiful here and a great deal of help and advice is on offer from staff and students at the University.
You should not feel that you have to rush to sign a housing contract as soon as possible. There are many options available to you.
The most important thing, whichever option you choose, is to read your housing contract thoroughly before signing it. Please allow yourself enough time to do this so that you know exactly what you are signing up for.
