Green League - our achievements
Most improved - 6th in the Russell Group of Universities 2013.
The Arts Tower Blackout on 15th March showed the University of Sheffield’s commitment to our Energy Strategy, in a visible, powerful way that won the hearts and minds of the Sheffield community. 26 student and staff volunteers worked together to plunge the Arts Tower into complete darkness. If repeated every weekend, this would deliver 26 tonnes of CO2 savings in that one building alone.
This was just one of many inspiring environmental actions which led to the University of Sheffield being named “Most Improved” in this year’s People and Planet Green League table.
People & Planet's Green League is the only comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance. It is compiled annually by the UK's largest student campaigning network, People & Planet.

Research for a sustainable future: Much of our most energy-intensive research is about finding solutions to global sustainability challenges. While not rewarded in the Green League, it is work of a vital importance to achieving a better future.
|
Students making a better world: Students at the University of Sheffield do amazing work on sustainability issues. Here are just 3 of the dozens of great examples:

“We’re absolutely delighted with our significant leap up the table this year, a result which is a credit to the commitment from staff at all levels of the organisation to do their bit to help us improve our environmental impact, as well as a programme of major development activities across the University estate.
