MEng Group Projects

a circuit board

Undergraduates enrolled on the four-year M.Eng. course must complete a group project in their final year. Groups consist of around four students and emphasis is placed on conducting the projects in a very professional manner – minutes are produced at all meetings, and reports are produced at regular intervals throughout the work. Through the bringing together of a number of high quality M.Eng. students, each of which already have three years of academic experience behind them, these group projects often achieve a considerable amount. Furthermore, there exists the possibility of carrying on a large project to the following year.

Ideal arena for more demanding projects with multiple issues…

M.Eng. Group Projects, being team activities, offer the benefit of a number of individuals working together, so allowing more than one activity to be conducted at the same time. Hence projects that can naturally be partitioned into four or more subsections are particularly suitable. For example, a recent project required the design of an internal combustion engine/electric motor driven locomotive. This required the design and building of an electric motor, a generator, microprocessor control system, and user interface.
