Get the right type of degree…

For the most part, it takes three years to become a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or four years to become a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.). The main difference between the two degrees is that, whilst our B.Eng. will give you all of the skills to become an Electronic or Electrical Engineer, our M.Eng. will also give you management and marketing skills and increase your design and research abilities.
There are currently over a hundred universities in the UK and most will offer several types of degree. A safe way to see if the degree that you are interested in is a good one is to check if it is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

For our profession, the IET represents electrical and electronic engineering and related sciences. As well as keeping the country informed about the latest technologies, the IET also sets standards of qualifications for professional electrical and electronics engineers and accredits degree courses in subjects that are relevant at universities and colleges around the world. Crudely translated, accreditation equals quality.
Via an accredited course you can become a Chartered Engineer and later in your career you will be able to provide the technical, managerial and commercial leadership skills that industry needs to be competitive.
