BTEC Candidates

The Department welcomes students from a wide range of different backgrounds for all its degree courses. Candidates offering BTEC should apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Services (UCAS). Application forms are available in most schools or colleges but in case of difficulty they can be obtained from UCAS, Rosehill, New Barn Lane, Cheltenham, Glos. GL52 3LZ.

Successful candidates will have a mixture of merits and distinctions at level III or above to show ability across the subject area. We will normally demand that candidates have been awarded a distinction in at least four units, including Mathematics. All candidates must also possess an approved English Language qualification. This will normally be GCSE (grade C) or 'O' level, but the BTEC units "Industry in Society" or "General and Communication Studies" may be accepted as alternatives. Most candidates will be made an offer based on the details in their UCAS form. Occasionally, however, a candidate will be asked to attend for a formal interview before an offer is made.

Further information and details of entry requirements for other qualifications can be obtained by writing to the Undergraduate Admissions Secretary, Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, University of Sheffield, Mappin Street, Sheffield, S1 3JD.

All candidates are invited to attend an Open Day in the Department.
