Accommodation
Subject to certain conditions, the University will guarantee a place in University accommodation to all single first-year students who firmly accept an offer of a place.

Accommodation is generally of two types:
- Halls of Residence :- These are less than two miles from the University. Most meals are provided and typical weekly rents are £90.55-£116.45 per week for a 31 week contract.
- University Flats and Houses:- The University of Sheffield has an impressive variety of self-catering accommodation, ranging from modern purpose-built flats to converted Victorian town houses. Contracts are 38 weeks, with weekly rents ranging from £57.76-£69.80 for a flat to £57.76-£68.96 for house.
The University cannot guarantee to place students in their first choice of accommodation, but will endeavour to do this as far as possible. Precise details of University housing and the relevant application forms are sent to all applicants who have firmly accepted an offer, at the end of June or early July.

Accommodation Services also maintain a register of private flats and houses. All have been inspected and those occupied by students are visited on a regular basis in order to maintain good standards.
Rents tend to be charged for a 52 week period and are payable in advance throughout the year, including vacations. The weekly rents range between £38 and £48 per week for a single room in a shared house. Bedsits are usually slightly more expensive.
