The School of Education is pleased to support applications for post-graduate scholarships towards PhD study.

The School of Education is pleased to announce that applications for post-graduate scholarships are now invited.

We will be supporting applications for two scholarship competitions for suitable students who wish to pursue doctoral study. These are the following:

a) The University of Sheffield PhD scholarship competition
b) Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) scholarship competition through the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre (WR - DTC), a major new collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.

These scholarships fund up to three years full-time (or six years part-time) Doctoral study, subject to satisfactory progress.

We would welcome and be happy to support any topic related to Education provided that there is a good match with supervisory expertise, and more generally with the School’s research portfolio. We strongly recommend that prospective applicants familiarize themselves with academic staff profiles in order to identify a suitable potential supervisor. We can help in the preparation of your research proposal and seeking support from the School is encouraged. There is a process to follow in order to meet the various closing dates, so please read carefully:

The closing date for these scholarship applications is 1 February 2013 at 12:00pm.

Successful students will be sent an award letter by email, by R&IS, by the end of April. They will be required to accept their award by completing a simple online form within two weeks of the offer letter being emailed.

Fully-funded ESRC/DTC studentship in Education (EU/UK applicants only)


The School of Education has been awarded one Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) studentship through the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre, a major new collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.

Applicants are required to follow the same procedure and with the same closing dates as outlined in the University of Sheffield scholarships competition section.

The School will inform the applicant who has been nominated for the award by the end of February, however the award will be confirmed by the White Rose Academic Quality Committee in April 2012.
