How is the course taught?

We have worked to develop new ways of teaching the programme – so it is flexible, and part-time. You will be in the university approximately one day a week in term-time – but not every week. You will be assigned a personal tutor to help you with the programme. A mix of teaching styles including seminars, workshops, visits and tutorial sessions are provided. Plus, a mix of learning opportunities including doing research, writing case studies, and writing reports, have been designed to be of value throughout your career. The programme is specifically designed for those who wish to combine study with other commitments.

How will I be assessed?

Everything is assessed through coursework – including presentations as well as written assignments. Students work with a tutor to make sure their assignments fit closely with their own interests. There are no examinations.

Special features of this Masters Degree include:

  • A great deal of your learning will be by doing (‘action learning’) and working on projects with communities;
  • There is a strong emphasis placed on applying your academic learning to practical situations;
  • Agencies working with communities are closely involved in the course;

You can extend your studies to Doctoral level if you wish.
