Written work in support of your application
As part of your application for the Ed. D you are asked to supply us with a piece of writing that you have produced on the theme of education. This could be:
- a short extract (approximately 2,000 words) from a longer piece of your academic writing (for example a masters thesis or published journal article).
- an extract (approximately 2,000 words) from an analytical document or report that you have written in the course of your professional duties (for example a policy document, a review of practice in education, an internal report written for your institution or employer); or journalism that you have published (for example TES, THES, union magazine – total 2,000 words).
You could also make up a portfolio consisting of one or more of these types of documents.
Additionally, please write a short `personal statement´ in support of your application. This should take the form of a 1,000 –1,500 word reflection on some aspect of education that interests you. It can be written in the first person and could cover:
- the nature of changes that you have witnessed and experienced.
- the consequences of these changes for the role you play, for relationships between educators and students and for institutions.
- your thoughts about these changes and their implications for your working life in the future.
Such a personal statement should be succinct and tightly structured.
You should use this opportunity to give us some insight into your reflective and critical thinking on the education process.
