EdD in Educational Studies
The Ed D in Educational Studies is a broad and flexible research based programme incorporating six structured modules and a substantial research thesis. The programme provides students from a wide range of educational backgrounds with opportunities to explore their research interests in the context of their own professional roles. In addition it gives a thorough grounding in the philosophy, principles and practice of educational research as well as a critical understanding of key contemporary issues in the field.
The Educational Studies programme encourages students to conduct high quality research; to explore practice, policies, theories relating to educational studies; to acquire theoretical and applied knowledge of contemporary issues and to examine critically current global trends in education systems and gain a doctorate under the supervision of a supportive team.
The programme is associated with the School of Education´s Centre for the Study of Educational Development and Professional Lives. The Centre brings together researchers variously involved in using auto/biographical approaches to study aspects of lives and careers, and/or those who are interested in education policy, curriculum, teaching and learning, both in the national and in the wider global, context. Centre members share a commitment to critical and transformative inquiry and to investigating conditions for, and influences on, the part played by education (in its broadest sense) in the quest for social justice. All students are welcome to participate in Centre activities, and in any case will benefit from its work.
