Course Structure
At level one you will study a diverse range of modules designed to provide a solid foundation to your studies. You will take modules in child psychology and the sociology of education, a module looking at comparative histories of education, and modules exploring the curriculum and how childhood has been portrayed across different societies and at different times. You will also take a module that will help you develop both subject-specific and transferable study skills.

At levels 2 and 3 there are a range of modules from which to choose, including modules on psychology and learning communities, educational policy, globalisation and inclusive education, digital literacies, and teaching and learning. These supplement the core modules which, at levels two and three, are centred around research and critical inquiry. A core level two module will provide a grounding in educational research methods while at level three you will gain insight into the rich and varied research taking place within the School in the innovative education@sheffield module. You will also be given the opportunity to engage in your own research, through a small-scale research project at level two and an extended dissertation at level three.
Throughout the degree, you will develop a wealth of high-level transferable skills, including communication, interpersonal, research, planning, management and organisational skills. Importantly, a level two placement module allows you to develop and apply these skills in a professional workplace setting of your own choosing.
