Muhammad graduated from Punjab University Lahore Pakistan. Following his Bachelor degree (BSc) he obtained MA in Economics degree from Punjab University in 1999, MAS in Economics from the Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC) Karachi University in 2004 and MPhil degree in Economics from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad in 2007. The topic of the research thesis was "The Incidence of the Government Expenditure on Education and Health: A Case Study of Pakistan". He then joined the International Institute of Islamic Economics (IIIE) International Islamic University Islamabad Pakistan as Lecturer.
