Teaching
"I teach and have taught across a wide range of modules in economics and econometrics, as well as more formal courses in statistics and mathematics. At Sheffield, my teaching has been concentrated on theoretical and applied microeconomics at both introductory and advanced levels, and in labour economics which is the focus of much of my research. In my teaching, I endeavour to engage students in a critical appraisal of the issues under consideration, and to encourage them to challenge their own perceptions and understanding. I utilise a wide range of techniques and technologies in my teaching in order to stimulate discussion and debate, and to develop students´ communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. In 2009, I was awarded a national prize by the Higher Education Academy for Excellence in Learning and Teaching in Economics. The prize citation included: "The Academy noted that, in a year in which they received a record number of nominations and the overall standard of nominating statements was very high, it was ultimately felt that Andy Dickerson's teaching displayed all the qualities of commitment, enthusiasm, innovation and evident success that represent excellent teaching practice."
