Biography

I joined the University of Sheffield in 1982 and have been closely involved in research and teaching in restorative dentistry over this period of time. I am currently Head of the Academic Unit of Restorative Dentistry. I also serve as an external examiner for the University of Birmingham and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and as a regional representative for the British Society of Periodontology.

My research falls within the strategy for research of the Dental School, within the Oral Health and Disease Group and includes:

Teaching Interests

My teaching interests are in the clinical teaching of restorative dentistry and in particular periodontology.

Current projects

I am currently working on a clinical trial to test a sensor developed in collaboration with colleagues at Queen Mary´s University of London that detects a panel of proteases for the diagnosis and monitoring of periodontal disease.
