Noel Sharkey discusses robot ethics in Die Zeit and Los Angeles Times

24th January 2012

Professor Noel Sharkey talks to Die Zeit, the German National Newspaper, about the role of robot ethics and the myth of the thinking robot. You can read the interview online (in German) at http://www.zeit.de/2012/04/T-Roboter-Interview.

Noel has also recently been interviewed by the Los Angeles Times, in an article about accountability for autonomous military aircraft. In the article, Noel argues that "Lethal actions should have a clear chain of accountability ... this is difficult with a robot weapon. The robot cannot be held accountable. So is it the commander who used it? The politician who authorized it? The military's acquisition process? The manufacturer, for faulty equipment?"
